Austin, TX – Toros assistant coach Roy Rogers has been promoted to an assistant coach with the New Jersey Nets, announced today by Nets President Rod Thorn. Rogers is the 19th coach called-up to the NBA in the D-League’s seven year history and the first for Austin.

Rogers spent last season with the Toros on Head Coach Quin Snyder’s staff. In his season with the Toros he helped steer the team to a 30-20 record, a Southwest Division Championship title and a trip to the 2008 D-League finals.

“I am excited about this great opportunity with the Nets. I’ve gained invaluable experience from the D-League, Coach Snyder and my time with the Spurs coaching staff,” said Rogers.

Prior to joining the Toros, Rogers spent the previous two seasons with the Tulsa 66ers. Rogers made his coaching debut with the Huntsville Flight in 2004.

“We are very pleased for Roy and his family. He was a valuable asset to our Toros program. We are excited for this opportunity for him, but he and his family will be greatly missed,” said Spurs General Manager and President of Sport Franchises R. C. Buford.

Prior to his coaching experience, Rogers played professionally from 1996-2004. He was drafted 22nd overall in the 1996 NBA Draft out of the University of Alabama and played for Memphis, Boston, Toronto, Houston, Chicago, and Denver, while in the NBA. Rogers played internationally from 2000-2004 in Russia, Italy, Greece and Poland.
